Design spotlight: Karim Rashid

Interior Design

Hey guys and thanks for checking out this latest blog post. The topic today is on a designer i have only just discovered who goes by the name of *drum roll please*  architect and Interior designer Karim Rashid. Never heard of him? Me neither. In fact, I only happened to stumble across this marvellous designer by pure happenstance and of course i am about to share that story with you. There are some new apartments which i had noticed have just been completed not too far from where I live and whilst on a phone call to a friend, The curiosity of what these apartments looked like on the inside and how much they were being rented for arose. I remember the name of these apartments in question being named a Karim house, so typed this into google, as you do although my search for these apartments still remains unfruitful I had the pleasure of stumbling across something way cooler.

meet Karim Rashid, 57, born in Cairo, Egypt and raised in Canada. Rashid studied at the Toronto and Corcoran college of art and design in Industrial design and has since won  many prestigious awards across a plethora of design fields, from interiors to packaging design. His works feature in 20 permanent collections and is exhibited world wide, as well as lecturing at universities and conferences. Rashids clients include, just to name a few, kenzo, Hugo boss, Samsung and has been featured in Vogue, Time magazine, Esquire and GQ.

His designs are a mixture of sculptural and playful, incorporating vivid colours, i think he is having a love affair with the colour pink which is great. It is as though he is literally turning an abstract painting into reality with his us of abstract colour and design. His interiors, which is what i am focusing on is on some level ‘triply’ and almost like stepping back into a modern 70’s era.
