Feeling Blue.

fashion, street style

As far as colour is concerned, I’m definitely more reserved. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I do have the occasional pop of colour, but on a whole it’s pretty monotone. With colour being very trendy of recent years It doesn’t seem to be something I’ve fully Indulged in. Of recent however I have noticed myself being drawn to one colour inparticaluar. Pink has always been a favourite colour of mine although it took me a while to realise it, the evidence pointing towards a favourite pink leather purse which was used to obliteration. Colour has an interesting affect on our psch and there is psychology behind this, studies show that many humans prefer colours from a shorter wavelength spectrum this means colours like blue as opposed to red. Blue has a calming effect on our minds which may be the reason we tend to prefer it over other colours like red and orange. I have tried red and it was just too overwhelming for my little ol’ brain. Well If you havent guessed by now the colour in question is indeed blue, inparticularly cobalt blue. I find this colour creeping into almost every clothes search favourite of mine that it’s most definitely becoming a trend. So I’ve collated my favourite cobalt blue pieces from my cart to share with you. As always these pieces are all pre-loved.

Really love the relaxed feel of these wool trousers as there from VB you know the quality will be great. The vintage levi is a great original piece that you wont see anyone else in.
Silk is my favourite fabric so an edgier colour adds a great statement to any wardrobe. I feel like we all love a ribbed anything so the jumper is a no brainer. The dress, which is also by Whistles has a lovely classy summer feel whilst still serving looks with its hue and pattern.

Do you have a favourite colour and are there any colours you’ve yet to incorporate into your wardrobe? Share your thoughts in the comment section

Monikh…Fashion Girl Crush.

fashion, Inclusivity, Instagram Spotlight, street style

Just another day in Quarntine, relentlessly scrolling away through pinterest, fashion & style related obviously, when by pure happenstance I stumble across this brown skinned babe who’s picture I immediately clicked to discover whether one pin would lead to another showcasing her impeccable style.

Evidently, I have been living under a rock as after further investigation uncover she is a writer for whowhatwear and stylist who goes by the name of Monikh.

I love including WOC in fashion on my blog to inspire those interested and also as a collection of people/ images who inspire me.

I would describe Monikhs style as casual on the one hand with a sprinkle of glam. Top that off with her glowing skin and you have a recipe for success. I love how all the shades she wears really work well with her complexion as this is something I am currently working on. I’ve been looking at women with brown skin and seeing what colours work for them, so I can implement those same hues into my own wardrobe. Shades like browns and greens are colours I have not gravitated towards however see how they work well with a melanated complexion.

As well as her fashion Monikh also has snippets of her minimalist styled home. For those who didn’t know Ian interested in all things arts and design and interiors is a great passion of mine also so I’ve included some snaps from her insta. You can find Monikhs page here.

Sustainability: Lets talk about Jacquemus A/W 2020

fashion

Jacquemus, the designer who everyone loves just dropped a collection made primarily of Linen fabrics. The good thing about Linen, it is not only a stylish fabric, who doesn’t love a good linen dress or trouser in the summer, is that if they are not dyed they are 100% biodegradable. Not only has Jacquemus used natural Linens and wools, when they have been dyed, they have been dyed naturally with vegetable dyes. In contrast to last seasons vivid bright pinks and yellow, this collections palette is a lot more natural and earthy. Colours ranged from Pale Olives, pale purples, baby blues and the natural familiar colour linen typically comes in. This is important because Fashion is the 2nd biggest pollutant and contributor of waste in turn contributing to global warming. This contribution is calculated to a total of 4% to the worlds waste. This may not seem a lot but that is a staggering 92 tonnes of non degradable, meaning synthetics like polyester and heavily toxicated from unnatural dyes.

Jacquemus, made more popular for his ‘Le Chiquito’ mini bags, the French Designer started his career at the age of 19. Though some may argue much younger, as his first real experience with creating was at the tender age of 7. Pulling inspiration from the popular Japanese brand Commes De Garcon, Jacquemus designs focus on minimalist constructions with an asymmetrical edgy twist, creating collections reminiscent of a fun more refined 90s vibe that has brought him much success. His popularity has increased with the help of instagram fashion influencers where he runs his own page. His Autumn Winter 2020 collection was set at a ‘humongous building at La Defense, at the edge of Paris, and took half the city with him’ The sight was quite surreal with the models walking diagonally through the gigantic illuminous white square, With the industries most affluent models blessing the runway. One thing I love about Jacquemus is his inclusivity of models of all ethnicities, it is definitely not a spot the black scenario at this show.

Simon Porte Jacqumeus showed sexy figure fitting linen spaghetti strap dresses teamed with 90s style bandanas and off the shoulder knits that I, for one, being a 90s baby am here for. It definitely reminded me of the earlier episodes of SATC. See references below.

Overall I think The show was fun to watch and incorporated elements of nostalgia, if minimalism and or sustainabliltiy then this collection may be worth your while. It does remind me of Kanye Wests collection as the colour palette is similar however expected when working with linens. Let me know What you think of the set and collection and his use of models in the comment section below.

Designer Spotlight: Loza Maleombho

ART, fashion
Loza Maleombho Fall/Winter 2015 collection

I first discovered designer Loza Maleombho scrolling through afro futurist pages on Instagram and was instantly inspired by her originality and fusion of modern fashion with traditional aesthetics. Being from a African heritage it is sometimes hard to fit in within an industry so heavily influenced by European Beauty ideals and standards Loza Maleombho is a breath of fresh air for those interested in African Futures. Maleombho fuses traditional techniques with structural elements of design providing a whole new perspective on self identity within fashion. Her designs have been applauded and featured by Vogue, Saint Heron and True Africa and used in a Beyonce 2016 Formation music video.

Born in Brazil she was raised between Côte d’Ivoire and the United States and has been designing since she was 13. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Animation at the University of the Arts of Philadelphia in 2006 and took on several internships at New York City’s top fashion designer houses before deciding to start a brand of her own which was Established in New York City in 2009 and relocated to Côte d’Ivoire since 2012 where its production now takes place, Loza Maléombho is best described as a fusion between traditional cultures/ sub-cultures and contemporary fashion. Loza Maléombho bridges Ivorian traditions with modern fashion: the silhouettes celebrate the paradox of the old and new, cultural and futuristic. More specifically, Loza Maléombho experiments the synergies between Ivorian tribal aesthetics and New York City’s urban fashion.

Loza Maléombho works with artisans who have mastered their craft for generations and find ways to communicate their trade with fashionable items that are on trend.

The talent that Loza Maleombho exudes is phenomal. She transforms her ideas into creative outlets that provoke emotion and communicate cultural oppression and differences through minimalist selfies with cultural props.

“The concept of “Alien Edits” came to me rather intuitively and I am still expressing and experimenting as I am writing this, but if I had to pin it I’d say that it came from frustrations about the U.S. judiciary system with its on going discrimination against African Americans and frustrations about social issues that are class, race, culture, sexuality and religious stereotypes, all of which cause a state of alienation on its victims.”

NYFW Spring Summer 2019 : Day 1

fashion

It’s that time again New York Fashion week spring summer 2019. I’ve collected my favourite looks from my favourite shows for your viewing pleasure so take a look.

Tom Ford S/S19

I love love loved this show. There were 3 different moods running through the show ‘bougie street style’ is how I’d describe the first that I’ve put in a collage. I love the all black snakeskin and black slip like material with a pop of nude colour on the shoes.

Sheer materials are one of my favourite and combined with Constructed Waist belts which defines your shape. These waist belts are going to be big in the coming seasons.

Animal print has been big since Autumn Winter 2018 and continues to be seen on the runway paired with fringing for a fun and edgy evening look.
